When it comes to Sustainability, we better act today
In Belardi Food Group, we prioritize balancing environmental, social, and governance factors for long-term sustainability. We focus on the environment, employees, local communities, and business resilience.
Let’s explore our specific actions towards a more sustainable future.
Monaco for the sustainable development
In 2017, Monaco published its Energy Transition White Paper, including a commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by fifty-five percent by 2030 compared with 1990 levels and achieving complete carbon neutrality by 2050. Therefore, it has always been a natural habit for us to act responsibly in the environment in which we operate, and it is of great importance to the company.

Environmental impact
Seventy-one percent of extreme weather events and trends, such as floods, heatwaves, typhoons, and droughts, were found to be made more likely or more severe by human-caused climate change, as per the Carbon Brief, a UK website specializing in climate science.
The global food systems alone are responsible for thirty percent of global greenhouse gasses (GHG) emissions, per the European Commission’s article dated January 2023. This number covers all elements and activities related to food manufacturing, distribution and consumption. BFG, like other leading participants in the food industry, set the reduction of its environmental footprint among its main priorities.
In 2015, BFG achieved Environmental Management System certification ISO 14001. This standard sets the company’s processes and practices for reducing environmental impact. It was an important starting point in our sustainability journey. It triggered the first actions and projects like office waste management, replacing paper with electronic documentation, remote working days and switching to plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.
We reached another milestone in 2020 by introducing its Ecological Sustainability Index. The index measures the overall environmental impact of the company’s products and services. The calculation considers the ecological impact of each element in the supply chain minus any compensation mechanisms.
The supply chain’s elements vary in product category, type of packaging, producer’s sustainability rating, distribution channel, and the miles the goods travel from the factory to the final destination.
Once implemented, up to fifty percent of our energy consumption will be renewable. We recalculate the index score annually and set next year’s objectives.
Support to local communities
We help people who need it and regularly raise money for charitable causes. During the pandemic, BFG donated over fifteen tons of canned food products to the charity Caritas di Vercelli in Italy. Shortly after the attack on Ukraine in 2022, the BFG local office in Odesa provided direct financial support to the families mainly affected.
Since 2015, BFG has participated in the annual Children & Future charity event in Monaco called No Finish Line. The event occurs on a dedicated circuit where participants walk or run 1km to raise 1€ for projects supporting children worldwide. We have won our category for companies with up to fifty employees three times. We are incredibly proud of our team’s achievement. It was an excellent opportunity to spend quality time together and embrace the team spirit.
BFG employees
Our people are the most valuable asset. We cultivate a positive company culture and support healthy work-life balance.
Our team consists of nine different nationalities, and our management is gender-balanced. We help our employees develop professionally and prioritize internal promotions so that we can grow together.
In 2023, over eighty percent of our team took professional development courses covering topics such as business growth strategies, supply chain management, leadership development, and advanced negotiation.
We strive to stay up-to-date with the latest trends and developments in our field of expertise. We encourage innovation and entrepreneurial spirit to enhance our customers’ value chain.
Business resilience
Global supply chain disruptions have occurred in recent years due to various risks like COVID-19, extreme weather, and war conflicts, affecting most industries.
We have developed extensive expertise in creating global food supply chains for more than two decades. Ensuring our customers receive their orders accurately and timely is crucial. We use this critical knowledge to assist our clients in achieving robust supply chains. We mitigate risk factors related to production, food safety, and logistics while maintaining cost competitiveness.
We aim to be a leading player in every market where we operate. Sustainability is an integrated part of our company’s culture, habits, and basic operations. In January 2024, we initiated a comprehensive modernization project aimed at improving the efficiency of our activities across the group.
BFG recognizes the significant contribution of the food industry towards greenhouse gas emissions. As a responsible corporate entity, we are dedicated to minimizing our carbon footprint. We regularly assess the impact of our actions and evaluate areas for improvement.
Sustainability is crucial for the growth of our client’s businesses, and we strive to provide them with exceptional support on this journey.
